Studies have show that a large percentage of people who record their daily activities have a greater success rate than those who do not. Keeping a food log is no different. Using a log to record our diets:

  1. Prevents us from missing meals

  2. Keeps us focused

  3. Is an excellent form of accountability

  4. Lets us know why we are succeeding or failing to succeed

  5. Helps identify sleep patterns

  6. Helps identify patterns in our level of energy

Keeping a food log is not time consuming and you can get started now by printing out a copy of the 247body.com Food Log. Simply use this log to record what you are eating. I find it best to fill my log out while I’m eating. Your food log can also be used as a menu. Plan out your meals ahead of time and record them in your food log. You can simply check them off as your day progresses.

Filling out your log is easy. Start with the date and the time you consumed your meal. In the “Energy” section, simply record how you feel - tired, good, energetic, sleepy, etc. Lastly, record what beverage you consumed with your meal along with any supplements you may have used. Repeat all of the above with every meal.

Food logs keep us honest and focused. When we get frustrated with our weight this tool comes in handy. We ask ourselves, “I don’t know why my weight’s not budging?” Then we take a close look and see things like skipped meals, improper foods, and poor portioning and find the answer.

When we are progressing positively, this log shows us why we are succeeding. We can take a look at our food log and be proud of our accomplishments and continue to use it for a motivational tool.
